What is WEA?

WEA stands for Workers’ Educational Association.

They are the UK’s largest voluntary provider of adult education, running over 10000 courses a year in a variety of locations and for people from all walks of life.

The WEA operate from local centres, churches and halls and their courses are often run by local regions or volunteers and their own WEA regional centres. They operate in England and Scotland currently.

WEA courses are classified as short-courses; they usually run for around 2 months and cover topics such as reading and writing, number skills, preparation for work, local history and art.

Using The WEA

At the top of the homepage you’ll find all the links you need. It’s advisable to start by reading through the About Us section, to see if the WEA is suitable for you.

Once you’ve done this, there is a box on the homepage where you can enter your postcode, and distance to search for courses near you. These results can then be sorted by price, distance or starting date. This is all fully accessible.

Browsing these results you will see the course title, distance from your postcode, tutor, fee and start and end dates, if you’re interested, you can click the more information link.

Alternatively from the homepage you could select the courses link, and browse that way.

Under the "courses" section you will find information about learning support, how the WEA can help you if you have a disability. As always, when signing up its best to do this over the phone so they get the best idea of your needs possible.

As with most forms of adult learning you are entitled to financial help (if applicable) and any specialist equipment or support you require to complete the course and any exams that may accompany it.

Navigation suggestions

This is a fairly easy website to use, it does use headings, but these sometimes occur underneath the information and not above. The search function works well here though, and all the links appear together at the top of the page – making for easy navigation
