What Is Survey Monkey?
Sometimes when you’re doing a course/qualification, you need to gather data. This can be done in a variety of
ways, but if you’d like to create surveys, where the participants can just click a link and fill it out, then
survey monkey offers this service.
How to use Survey Monkey
You can look around the website, but you can’t actually create a survey without registering, which is free.
The registration process is simple, and accessible, you have to enter a username, password and email address,
choose whether you wish to receive updates from them and confirm.
Creating surveys
Once you’ve registered you can choose the link near the top of the page, entitled "create survey". On the first
page of this you have to enter the title of your survey, in this instance I’ve used "WebbIE testing survey."
Once you’ve done this, and clicked on create you can then add questions. To do this click "add question", which
you may need to do by pressing control + enter. The prompts for this then appear at the top of the page, not where
you’d necessarily expect them to be!
First there’s a drop-down box, asking you to select type, for instance text box answer, multiple choice, etc.
Once you’ve selected this and pressed enter, the next page will be loaded.
Here you will be asked to enter the question; I went for a simple text box one to start with. Once you’ve typed
in the question, you’ll find a couple of tick boxes underneath asking whether this question is optional, or,
whether each answer needs to be validated. Make your choice, then press save.
Here we hit a problem, once you hit save; you get a script error, and basically need to go back to
surveymonkey.com to continue. The question does appear to save though.
Multiple choice questions are accessible to add also.
Using survey monkey
As every page is differently laid out here, it’s best to navigate by find, or simply by line.
