PURPOSE
This Web site introduces the various aims, objectives and website offerings which relate to engaging ordinary
people in the political process.
ASSUMPTIONS
Running Thunder screenreader software from www.screenreader.net or any other screenreader software, the WebbIE
browser from www.webbie.org.uk and www.mysociety.org.
What follows works well for those not able to see the writing on screen. If you prefer magnification, press
Control + I (Image) and you can select the print size by mouse-clicking on the magnifying Glass at the top of the
screen. Click on one of the other top of screen icons to restore the original size. Control + I toggles between the
text and the image presentation of websites.
Launch WebbIE by holding down the WINDOWS KEY to hear "Start Menu". Then type Webbie and press ENTER. A webpage
will come up automatically for you, assuming your computer has been set up for the internet.
To start listening to the My Society website, press the TAB KEY and type this address:
www.mysociety.org/projects
Press the ENTER KEY and WebbIE will speak the page for you.
Press the CONTROL KEY to stop the speech at any time.
Press the DOWN CURSOR keys to explore the page a line at a time.
To explore the links - the page topics, press CONTROL + L. Explore the list with the DOWN or UP CURSOR KEYS,
pressing ENTER on your choice.
To skip the page links, press CONTROL + DOWN CURSOR and this will take you to what you may want to read. WebbIE
will automatically speak this or any webpage.
To listen to one of the My Society Websites listed, for instance, Fix My Street, do either of the following:
1. With WebbIE on Screen
press CONTROL + W
Type "fixmystreet"
Press ENTER.
You will hear a ticking sound, showing that the computer is searching and you will be taken to the Fix My Street
website.
2. With the My Society website on screen:
Press CONTROL + L to bring up the list of links.
Type f perhaps twice but until you hear "Fix My Street"
Then press ENTER.
Again, you will hear the ticking sound and will be taken to the Fix My Street website.
