What is BlindCoolTech?

Blind cool tech is a website full of podcasts - audio snippets on a wide range of topics. It’s a neat little website that could easily become addictive! There is a blindness perspective.

Using the website

A podcast is a broadcast over the internet for any one to listen to and enjoy and any of us can learn in time to create podcasts using free or low cost software.

At the top of the website you’ll see a small group of links, to subscribe- automatically get podcasts, to donate to the website, chat, frequently asked questions or the option to upload a podcast of your own. I won’t dwell on this too much here, because podcasting, whilst fun and interesting requires some technical knowledge so will be addressed elsewhere. It is worth noting, however, that the upload podcast feature works fine with WebbIE.

Listening

Each podcast is a heading, and underneath this you will see who did the podcast and a brief couple of lines explaining what it is about. Podcasts range from analysing the latest vi-accessible game, to exploring someone’s personal interest in classical music. There are no real guidelines on what you can podcast about, so generally there’s something for everyone!

You’ll find a new item every couple of days, so it’s quite a popular website with lots to listen too.

To listen to a podcast, firstly find one that interests you. There are several, they’re displayed newest first and currently all the ones available are shown on the homepage, so just go through until you find something of interest.

To play, you’ll need something like real player or windows media player installed on your computer.

Simply click the link of the podcast you’re interested in and it will play automatically. Do note, though, that it plays in a separate window so to stop the podcast playing you’ll need to press ALT TAB to get to where it’s playing, for instance RealPlayer then close it from there. Generally speaking you’ll find yourself back in the same place on the page, so if there’s another podcast you wish to listen too, just carry on browsing!

Navigation suggestion

Each podcast title is a heading, so that’s the easiest way to navigate, then arrow around to read the descriptions.
